Jessica’s Thoughts

{June 10, 2008}   Life Goes On

“In three words I can sum up everything I’ve learned about life — It goes on.”

~Robert Frost~

The above quote has become one of my favorite quotes. I only discovered this quote a few years ago, but it has definitely reminded me when we’re down, things can only get better.

I first discovered this quote after my first quarter of college when I received my less than stellar grades. In high school, I was almost a straight A’s type of student. I didn’t even have to try when I was in high school and I would receive excellent grades. Then, college came along and it was different – it was hard! After my first quarter of college, I had received 2 F’s! It was devastating for someone that had never failed in anything! I cried and cried for days. A friend of mine introduced me to Robert Frost’s quote.

When the quote was first introduced, I didn’t believe it. It didn’t help me at all when she shared the quote. But, the next time I hit a low point, I remembered the quote and how I had bounced back to what I thought was the end of the world when I received my poor grades! Since then, Robert Frost’s quote always comes to mind when I hit a low point in life.

Now that I’m older and constantly working with students, I often use this quote. But, I’m the one that gets to share the quote with those that are feeling bad. I know it doesn’t always help them at first… but they always come back months later thanking me for sharing this thought. Just like me when I was in college, they are young and think that everything bad that happens is the end of the world… Now, Robert Frost’s quote is helping them to realize faster that everything will be okay!
